  • Email on attendance@bvs.ilf.education

Why attendance matters

Full attendance allows Bradwell Village School students to experience the entirety of our curriculum, even by missing a few days of school students will lose out on parts of their education that may prove detrimental.

Consistent and punctual attendance are qualities that are highly valued by employers, who want to know that their work force is reliable, and as such they are qualities that Bradwell Village School seeks to develop, recognise and celebrate.

Attendance is monitored closely and as a School we will follow up any unexplained attendance. Where a student’s attendance record reaches a concerning level, we will contact Parents and Carers to discuss ways in which the School can provide support.

The expected attendance is 100%.

  • Persistent absence refers to pupils who miss 10% or more of school
  • Severe absence refers to pupils who miss 50% or more of school

Punctuality

We run a breakfast club from 7.40 to 8.50am.  There is also the ability to join the breakfast club for an "early drop-off" from 8.00am.  Please contact our school office for more details on 01908 318088.

Our school day starts from 8.50am and finishes at 3.20pm.  If your child arrives after 8.50 and before 9.20 they will be marked down as Late.  After 9.20, our registers will be considered closed and your child will be marked as U.  This counts as an unauthorised absence.

From September 2024, schools will have to consider a fine if a pupil misses 10 sessions (half days) of unauthorised absence in a rolling period of 10 school weeks. The threshold can be met with “any combination of unauthorised absence”. For example, four sessions in term time plus six instances of arriving late. The period of 10 weeks can also span “different terms or school years”.

Granting leaves of absence

Maintained schools and non-maintained special schools must only grant leaves of absence for specific circumstances set out in the 2024 attendance regulations (regulation 11). The permitted circumstances are:

  • Taking part in a regulated performance or employment abroad
  • Attending an interview
  • Study leave
  • A temporary, time-limited part-time timetable
  • Exceptional circumstances.  A family holiday is generally NOT considered an exceptional circumstance.

Please contact the school office should a query regarding any of the above.

Please refer to the document below for the up-to-date DfE guidance which details when penalty notices and/or fines could be issued .
