The Value of Reading
At Bradwell Village School, we believe that reading is essential for life, enhancing knowledge, stimulating creativity and improving language skills. Our priority is to develop all pupils into enthusiastic, confident readers.
Recognising that reading is the key to learning, we focus on teaching fundamental reading skills, enabling children to read to learn. We employ a balanced mix of approaches to ensure that our pupils not only acquire necessary skills but also cultivate a positive attitude, confidence and a lasting love of literature.
We encourage children to explore a wide range of books both in school and at home. To reinforce this, we emphasise the importance of role models; school staff are encouraged to share their own passion for reading with students.
We maintain high expectations for the progression of our students' reading skills, providing numerous opportunities for reading across the curriculum, not just in English lessons.
Through our commitment to fostering a love of reading, we aim to inspire a generation of lifelong readers.
